ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
In this unit, we will read the novel Brave New World as well as some companion non-fiction texts and videos to discover the answers to the following questions:
Is there such a thing as "true happiness?"
What does it mean to be human?
What is the role of government when it comes to freedom?
What is the effect of science and technology on society?
What is dystopian fiction and what is its purpose?

DISCUSSION POINTS: Please click on the appropriate class link for the discussion point presentation. You and your group will create a slide that answers an assigned question based on the night's reading.
Chapter 3 Activity: Organizing the chapter. This chapter can be a challenge to read because there are many speakers throughout the chapter. You need to use context clues to figure who is speaking. Huxley brilliantly intertwines the dialogue in order to introduce the necessary background and to introduce his characters. We will literally cut up the chapter and paste the dialogue in a more logical order in order to make better sense of the text.
WEDNESDAY: DISCUSSION FORUMS- As you read, you be asked to respond to the questions posted on the forum. Please click the link below and sign up for an account. Use your school login info and email. Questions will be grouped by chapters. You will be required to answer each question and to respond to at least THREE posts written by your classmates. You will receive one point for each post. Posts must be THOUGHTFUL, INSIGHTFUL, APPROPRIATE, CONNECTED TO THE TEXT, and IN-DEPTH. Posts that do not follow these guidelines will NOT RECEIVE POINTS. POSTS WILL BE CHECKED AFTER EVERY CHAPTER GROUPING!
